On 19 July 2018, IOM staff in Niamey welcomed and assisted 162 migrants arriving on a Libya charter flight organized by IOM Libya last night. IOM Niger was present to provide technical and logistical assistance for the registration, profiling, reception, medical assistance and subsequent transportation of migrants to their villages of origin.
This is the 14th IOM charter flight that arrives in Niger from Libya since October 2016, when operations began. Almost 2,300 people have arrived since, with more than 3,000 other migrants arriving last December with government charters, bringing the total number of migrants evacuated from Libya to Niger to over 5,300.
IOM’s Voluntary Return and Reintegration Assistance Program (AVRR) is supported by the European Union in Niger and through the Migrant Resource and Response Mechanism (MRRM).
