Workshop on IOM’s Demobilization, Disassociation, Reintegration and Reconciliation (DDRR) programme

The Ministry of the Interior, Public Security, Decentralization, Customary and Religious Affairs (MISPD / ACR) organized a workshop between 19 and 20 February in Niamey with the overall objective of improving the implementation of the National Program for Boko Haram Defectors through the adequate coordination of the programme’s various partners and their initiatives.

Violence related to the Boko Haram insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin has led to a deep social and humanitarian crisis in the Diffa region of Niger. In the absence of peace agreements that can lead to the cessation of the conflict related to Boko Haram and the Islamic State in West Africa (BH / EIAO), the MISPD has put in place an initiative to take charge of the defectors.

On the basis of the "Boko Haram Framework for Supporting the Surrender of Boko Haram Elements" developed in 2016, the MISPD proceeded with the construction of a reception center a few kilometers from the village of Goudoumaria, under the supervision of the National Guard of Niger (GNN). Today, 233 people (including women, children and third-country nationals) reside in the camp where they are assisted by the State of Niger thanks to funding from the US Department of State.
