Last week, IOM staff in Niamey assisted 27 Cameroonian migrants departing to their country of origin. Most of these migrants had been expelled from Algeria and had terrible experiences in the desert.
Florian is one of the youngest in the group, but also one of the happiest to go home and see his family: "After all that I experienced during this trip, I cannot wait to see them! He told us.”
Nearly 10,000 migrants have already benefited from voluntary return assistance in 2018, while the total for 2017 was just over 7,000. The assisted voluntary return and reintegration program is part of the Resettlement and Resource Mechanism. Migrants (MRRM) funded by the European Union in Niger.
