August 3 is not only the Independence Day of Niger, but also the National Day of the Tree. The tradition of this festival is that every Nigerian plant a tree in order to fight against the desertification of the country.
To celebrate this day, IOM and the All Migrants Project launched the "One Migrant - One Tree" initiative, thanks to the European Union in Niger as part of the Migrant Resource and Response Mechanism (MRRM) .
As part of this initiative, migrants from IOM's transit centers in Niamey as well as migrants living in underprivileged areas of Niamey were able to gather for the day, discuss their experiences with migration, as well as plant trees.
