In order to support the development of Zinder region and offer viable alternatives to irregular migration, IOM is implementing a project funded by the Secretariat State for Migration of the Schweizerische Eidgenossenschaft / Swiss Confederation. Through this project, IOM supports the reintegration of returned Nigeriens through community micro-projects, involving both migrants and vulnerable members of their community.
In Mai Maje, women in the group are already starting to see the impact of their microproject on their daily lives. Most of them are widowed or divorced, and look after their children without outside help. While some of them had to beg for something to eat, they are now leading a herd of 49 sheep, and their social status has changed.
